Protests Erupt in Nasarawa over Gubernatorial Tribunal Judgment [PHOTO/VIDEO]

Protests have erupted in Akwanga and other parts of Nasarawa State following the judgment of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal (GEPT) in Lafia.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Abdullahi Sule took to the streets to express displeasure over the tribunal’s decision to annul Sule’s election and declare David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the rightful winner.

Recall that the tribunal, in a split judgment on Monday, October 2, 2023, ruled that Ombugadu had proved his case of electoral irregularities beyond a reasonable doubt. The tribunal also ordered that Sule be removed from office immediately.

However, the APC and Sule have rejected the judgment and vowed to appeal at the Court of Appeal.

In a solidarity march in Akwanga, APC supporters carried banners with inscriptions such as “Akwanga people stand with the dissenting judgment” and “Sule is our governor.”

The protesters chanted slogans such as “No to injustice” and “Tribunal must reverse its judgment.”
