Real reason Atiku won the PDP primaries – Shehu Sani

A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, on Tuesday, said former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary election because Southern Governors opted for a formidable aspirant.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to Sani, Atiku is the candidate who can “mobilise voters and ultimately win the 2023 general elections”.

He also said Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike was not betrayed, adding that Wike is “an indispensable force for the battle ahead”.

“I don’t think the Southern Governors betrayed Wike; they simply looked beyond the primaries and opted for a formidable aspirant who can overcome northern sentiment, mobilise voters and ultimately win the general elections. Wike remains an indispensable force for the battle ahead,” Sani wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

Atiku last weekend emerged as the PDP presidential candidate with a total vote of 371 votes.

He polled 371 out of the 767 accredited votes to defeat his closest rival, Wike, who polled 237 votes.

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, came a distant third with 70 votes. The other contestants had lesser votes or scored zero votes.
