A Professor of Political Science at the Abia State University (ABSU), Hartz Ofoeze, has said that the attacks on the facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) especially in the South East region are aimed at depriving one of the 2023 presidential candidates with a strong base in the zone of his votes.
According to a recent document made available to POLITICS NIGERIA, INEC said it experienced 20 attacks by the so-called ‘Unknown Gunmen’ responsible for the destruction and terror in the South-East region.
Imo State tops the chart of attacks with 11 incidents between 2019 and 2022.
“They were taken unawares, and now they (the attackers) would prefer that the election does not even hold at all.
“If it were to be in those days when there were no BVAS machines, they would have been happier to hold the election but Nigerians are watching,” Prof. Ofoeze told Vanguard.
