General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Nigeria’s head of state from 1985 to 1993, has said that he refused to remarry following the death of his wife, Hajiya Maryam, in 2009 in “honour” of his late spouse.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Maryam died aged 61 from ovarian cancer on 27 December 2009 in a Los Angeles, California hospital, USA.
Since that time, ‘IBB’, as Babangida is commonly called, hasn’t taken another wife.
“I didn’t do it (remarry), you would have known,” he told Trust TV in a recent interview.
“The media still snoop around me, they should have known. I haven’t. It is a matter of choice; I decided to honour her by being not a bachelor but being unmarried.
Babangida (now 80) was married to Maryam from 1969 until her death in 2009. They had four children together; Aisha, Muhammad, Aminu, and Halima.
I don’t think that is composary since the children are not child any more
