“Reckless and insensitive” – CUPP react to Tinubu’s N1,000 petrol or CNG proposal

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has condemned President Bola Tinubu’s recent suggestion for Nigerians to buy petrol at N1,000 per litre or opt for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at N200.

Describing the statement as reckless and highly insensitive, CUPP highlighted the severe economic hardship many Nigerians are facing due to skyrocketing fuel prices.

Chief Peter Ameh, General Secretary of CUPP, criticized the government for failing to implement a proper policy framework before removing the fuel subsidy, leading to inflation, increased poverty, and a surge in transportation costs.

Ameh stated that Tinubu’s administration has not only worsened the poverty level in the country but has also failed to provide real solutions to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.

The CUPP urged the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens by investing in alternative energy sources and implementing transparent and accountable policies to address the ongoing economic crisis.

His words: “Instead of providing tangible solutions to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, this administration has resorted to insensitive statements.

“The recent launch of CNG at N230 per litre, while I see it a welcome move, does little to address the underlying issues caused by the fuel subsidy removal.

“The consequences of the fuel subsidy removal are dire, with increased poverty, economic hardship, and lack of transparency.

“To move forward, Tinubu’s government must learn how to prioritise the welfare of our citizens and develop policies that promote economic stability and growth in place of inconsistent and insensitive government statements.

“This includes providing a proper policy framework that will ensure a robust implementation, investing in alternative energy sources, and addressing corruption surrounding the fuel subsidy.

“Fundamentally, Nigerians deserve better than insensitive statements and impulsive policy decisions.

“Tinubu’s government must demonstrate its commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians through effective governance and policy decisions.”
