The Save Zamfara Coalition (SZC) has called on Governor Dauda Lawal to recognise the newly elected leadership of the State’s House of Assembly led by Bashir Gummi.
The coalition in a statement signed by its president, Haruna Mohammed and secretary, Shagari Ibn Nazir also urged the governor to comply with all parliamentary directives which includes the resubmission of the 2025 budget.
Messers Mohammed and Nazir said the call for the governor to abide by the tenets of the law stems from the recent developments in the state’s political ecosystem.
According to the coalition, the lawmakers have showcased an uncommon kind of bravery over the suspension 10 members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly under questionable circumstances.
The coalition also said that the lawmakers have since restored honour and independence to the legislative arm of Zamfara State after months of betrayal, complicity and silence under a compromised leadership.
It stated that despite enduring months of persecution, the lawmakers have protected the will of the people of Zamfara state and reclaimed the soul of the parliament from the governor’s grip.
“Let it be clear: refusal to recognise this new leadership will attract serious consequences. The Save Zamfara Coalition is prepared to use all legal and civil means to resist this assault on our democracy.
“The SZC also condemns Governor Lawal’s style of governance, which it described as arrogant, exclusionary, and unlawful — citing mass dismissal of public servants, failure to address worsening insecurity, and efforts to subvert legislative independence through backdoor deals,” the statement said.
The coalition further called stakeholders of the state to rise in defence of constitutional order.
