Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on Thursday described ex‑SGF Boss Mustapha, aged 69, as “just being silly” during an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time.
He was responding to Mustapha’s assertion that former president Muhammadu Buhari did not need support from President Bola Tinubu to win the 2015 election.
“Boss Mustapha was just being silly,” Omokri said on air.
Omokri accused Mustapha of trying to sow discord between Buhari and Tinubu, arguing that Buhari’s core support of 12 million votes from his stronghold in the North was insufficient to win the presidency before 2015.
He contended that Buhari “lost in 2003 and 2011” despite that base, and claimed the breakthrough came only when Tinubu’s influence from the South was added to that foundation.
According to Omokri, Nigeria’s political structure, dating from the Obasanjo constituent assembly era, enforces cross‑regional support: “no tribal Lord can ever become president of Nigeria” without it.
He said: “Buhari needed Tinubu, without Tinubu Nigeria’s history would have not been the same. Jonathan would have won that election, and Buhari would have remained a tiny dot in a circle.”
