Renowned sports journalist Kayode Tijani passes away at 55

The Nigerian sports fraternity is in mourning following the untimely death of esteemed sports journalist Kayode Tijani.

The 55-year-old veteran reportedly succumbed to a prolonged illness on Wednesday night, February 7, 2024, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

The devastating news was confirmed by Dr Ganiyat Tijani-Adenle, his sister and a senior lecturer at Lagos State University (LASU).

Tijani, a prominent figure in sports journalism, will be laid to rest on Thursday, February 6, 2024, at Atan Cemetery in Lagos, in accordance with Islamic rites.

The late Tijani, also known as the Chief Executive Officer of SportsXclusive and Sports Focus International, had an illustrious career that spanned over three decades.

Beginning as a sports journalist in 1987, he contributed significantly to the field and later served as the Chief Press Secretary to the late former Minister of Sports, Chief Alex Akinyele.

Having worked with reputable media outlets such as the Guardian Newspaper, Complete Football, Fame magazine, Channels TV, and BEN TV in the United Kingdom, Tijani’s influence extended far beyond borders.

He eventually founded his sports company, leaving an indelible mark on Nigerian sports journalism.
