REVEALED: How Peter Obi spent N744 million on 2023 Election Court Cases

The fundraising team for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation has revealed that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, expended a significant sum of N744,500,000 on litigation following his loss in the 2023 presidential election.

Chairman of the fundraising team, Aisha Yesufu, made this revelation during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in political spending

She outlined the strategic blueprint adopted by the campaign, which involved providing support to over 100 groups across Nigeria, media-related campaigns reaching over 11 million people through radio stations, community outreach, and social media.

Contrary to reports suggesting otherwise, Yesufu clarified that polling unit agents were indeed paid, with N324 million allocated for their mobilization.

However, financial constraints hindered the campaign from fully utilizing television adverts. Instead, significant amounts were allocated for campaign materials procurement (N258,374,330), media expenses including radio broadcasts (N16,432,867), and election promotion (N10,808,948).

The staggering sum of N744,500,000 was dedicated to covering legal expenses incurred in challenging the election results.

“For the election promotion expenses, we had N10,808,948 and deployed N744,500,000 to cover legal expenses. We thank everyone who donated in cash and kindness.”, she said.

Obi, who garnered 6,101,533 votes to emerge third in the February 25, 2023 presidential election won by Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, along with the Labour Party, rejected the results as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
