Former Governor and ex-Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, emerged as the Senate President on Tuesday morning during the inauguration of the 10th Senate.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that 109 Senators convened to elect key officials for the upper legislative chambers of the National Assembly.
The final results, announced in the fully packed assembly, revealed Akpabio, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Akwa Ibom South-South, as the winner with a commanding 63 votes. His competitor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara North West, also from the APC, secured 46 votes, bringing the total to 109.
As previously reported by this newspaper, Senator Ali Ndume from Borno South nominated Akpabio, while Senator Elisha Abbo from Adamawa North put forth the nomination for Yari.
A recent document has surfaced, revealing the senators who cast their votes for both Yari and Akpabio.
Although there is no official confirmation regarding the authenticity of the list, there are indications suggesting its genuineness.
