“Reverse Fuel Price Till Agreement With Labour is Reached” – TUC Tells FG

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has called on the Federal Government to retain the previous fuel price until a consensus is reached between the trade unions and the government.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this demand comes as a result of the decision made by the Congress’s National Executive Council, following extensive deliberations on the issues surrounding fuel subsidy removal and the demands put forth by labour during the last meeting with the government.

During a press briefing held on Friday in Abuja, Comrade Festus Osifo, the President of TUC, stated that the government’s response to their demands and the outcome of the forthcoming meeting between the Federal Government and labour on Sunday would dictate their subsequent course of action in relation to any potential industrial strike.

“At our recent meeting with the government representatives, they presented us with a list of their proposed actions, and in turn, they sought our input on the matter,” explained Comrade Festus Osifo.

“We informed them that we needed to consult with our members and provide them with our position. Our National Executive Council has now provided us with clear instructions, one of which is that the government should revert the fuel price to its previous level until an agreement is reached.”

The TUC President added, “We will disclose the rest of TUC’s demands once we have presented them. Therefore, after the presentation and subsequent discussions scheduled for Sunday, their reaction will determine our course of action.”
