Rivers Assembly Confirms Governor Fubara’s Commissioner, Adjourns Plenary

The Rivers State House of Assembly has confirmed Emmanuel Frank-Fubara as a commissioner nominee in the state government.

The confirmation followed a request by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to the Assembly to screen and ratify the nominee.

Monday’s plenary session was led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo who read out the governor’s correspondence, paving the way for Frank-Fubara’s confirmation.

Frank-Fubara’s credentials and qualifications were scrutinized before his appointment was accepted.

Frank-Fubara assured the lawmakers that his experience serving on various committees in the state has equipped him to excel in any portfolio assigned to him. He pledged to perform his duties with utmost dedication and commitment, promising a “hundred per cent serviceable” performance.

Deputy Speaker Timothy Orubieninmigha praised the commissioner nominee’s impeccable character and expressed confidence in his ability to serve the state with distinction. After a unanimous voice vote in his favour, the Speaker confirmed the nominee.

Following the approval, the House adjourned till Thursday.

Meanwhile, a parallel sitting of the assembly led by Martin Amaewhule has issued a 7-day ultimatum to Fubara to present the 2024 budget to the House.

The political landscape in Rivers State has been fraught with tension since the fallout between former Governor Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Fubara, last year.
