The member representing Obio/Akpor 1 constituency, Martin Amaewhule, has been elected as the Speaker of the Rivers state house of Assembly.
Amaewhule, who has been a member of the house since 2011, hails from Obio/Akpor local government area of the state.
Speaking after he was made the Speaker, Amaewhule said he would ensure that his tenure would be dedicated to the service and the wellbeing of the state.
“I will be a speaker for all. I will not divide but unite the members towards effective law-making for the good of our dear state,” he said.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, had earlier inaugurated the assembly as provided in section 105, subsection 3 of the 1999 constitution.
Also, Dumle Maol was elected as the deputy speaker while Edison Ehie became the majority leader and Major Jack got the chief whip position.
