Rivers Governor Fubara Approves Immediate Promotion Of LG Workers, Others

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced a number of benefits for local government workers, including immediate promotions, minimum wage implementation, and pension board inclusion.

During a meeting with local government leaders and NULGE officials at the Government House on Monday, Governor Fubara approved the immediate promotion of all eligible local government workers with full financial benefits.

This follows years of stagnation, where promotions were reportedly frozen for nearly eight years.

The Governor also gave the green light for the immediate implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage for local government workers. This fulfils a federal mandate that had seen delays in some states.

Furthermore, in recognition of rising economic pressures, Governor Fubara approved the immediate implementation of the N35,000 wage award granted by the Federal Government to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal. He also approved the inclusion of NULGE as a member of the Local Government Pensions Board, as stipulated by law, and authorised a consolidated salary structure for local government workers retiring at grade level 17.

Reacting to the announcements, NULGE president Clifford Paul expressed the union’s strong support for the Governor’s administration.
