Rivers Not a Christian State – Asari Dokubo Counters Gov. Fubara

Former Niger Delta militant Asari Dokubo has expressed disagreement with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara’s assertion that Rivers is a Christian state.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the governor, in a tweet shortly after his inauguration on May 29, 2023, declared the state’s commitment to upholding Christian values.

However, Dokubo took to Facebook Live to express his dismay, stating that Fubara’s remarks set off his term on an unfavourable note.

Dokubo emphasised that such a statement contradicted the principles of inclusivity and religious freedom.

According to Dokubo, the governor lacks the authority to declare the state as Christian one.

“I am utilising this platform to advise Governor Sim Fubara to reconsider his statement,” Dokubo stated.

“He needs to understand that Rivers State is not, and will never be, a Christian state. By making such a proclamation, the governor is starting off on the wrong path.”
