The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended an invitation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, urging him to join the party.
Tony Okocha, the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman in the state, conveyed the party’s appeal to Wike, stating that the APC, being the party in power, would benefit from Wike’s membership.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt following the defection of 27 state lawmakers to the APC, Okocha clarified that the lawmakers’ move might not necessarily be linked to a plan for Wike’s entrance into the APC fold.
Responding to speculations about Wike’s potential move to the APC, Okocha remarked, “I don’t think so.”
He emphasized that Wike, a prominent political figure, holds the agency to decide his political course and affiliations.
Highlighting Wike’s role in the APC’s success during the 2023 elections in Rivers State, Okocha credited Wike for contributing significantly to the party’s victory.
“Wike is a politician whose name shakes and echoes in the society, so nobody can think or say for him if he will defect to APC or not. In 2023, he immensely aided the victory of APC in the state.
“The best thing we are asking him to do is to come and join the APC because it is the government in power,” Okocha said.
