Sack CCT chairman now, Senate tells Tinubu

The Nigerian Senate has called on President Bola Tinubu to sack the chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar.

The Senate’s call for the sack of Umar follows allegations of corruption and misconduct levelled against the CCT chairman.

In a motion sponsored by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), during plenary on Wednesday accused Umar of falling short of the requisite standard of a public officer.

According to Bamidele, there have been several petitions against the CCT chairman necessitating the Senate Committee on Ethics Code of Conduct and Public Petitions to invite him to a series of its investigative hearings.

With the hope to unravel the circumstances surrounding these allegations, Bamidele said Umar honoured one invitation and ignored other subsequent ones.

He also stated that there have been records of Umar’s absence from office for more than a month without permission and recuse to his position.

“All these are tantamount to acts of negligence and gross misconduct, unbecoming of a chairman of such a reputable tribunal,” Bamidele said.

The motion was further adopted by lawmakers of the Nigerian Senate.
