Sanusi II slams Gawuna over response following defeat in Kano Guber dispute at Supreme Court

Muhammad Sanusi II, the fourteenth Emir of Kano, has slammed Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the Kano All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, over his comment following his defeat in the Kano gubernatorial appeal.

According to Sanusi II, Gawuna showed no graceful acceptance of the election defeat.

He said this during a virtual Islamic book presentation on social media.

The former Emir said the opposition lacked faith in the people’s choice, beginning from the tribunal and appeal courts, culminating in their defeat in the Supreme Court.

Emir Sanusi added that the fundamental right of citizens to vote for their chosen leaders is usually denied. He, therefore, condemned the act of denying citizens their rightful choice after casting their votes.

Sanusi said, “Something peculiar is happening; after people cast their votes and lose the election, they resort to the courts to forcefully seize power. They encountered Allah in the final court, and only then did they claim to believe in Allah’s decision.”

He encouraged the populace to bear a spirit of resilience in the face of judicial decisions.

He also offered prayers and counsel to the current governor of Kano State, advocating for a fair and democratic process in the next election.
