Security forces in pursuit as bandits kidnap top govt official in Niger state, flee to Kaduna

Suspected armed bandits have abducted the Council Secretary of Munya Local Government Area, Daina Usman, along with four others in a late-night attack in Sarkin Pawa, Niger State.

According to intelligence sources, the attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on February 20, when the assailants quietly infiltrated Usman’s residence, located near the riverbank in Sarkin Pawa, an area frequently targeted by criminal elements.

The victims include Daina Usman (Council Secretary), Deborah Daina (his wife), Sati Daina, Gambo Shagari and Sorro (also known as Snu).

Sources revealed to Zagazola that the abductors immediately fled with the hostages into Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, a known escape route for criminal groups operating in the area.

Upon receiving a distress call from local vigilantes, security operatives swiftly mobilized a joint task force comprising military personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Sarkin Pawa, Niger State Police Tactical Teams, and local vigilante groups to pursue the kidnappers.

The security forces have since launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation to track down the assailants and ensure the safe return of the victims.
