The Taraba State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian military and local hunters, has successfully rescued a kidnapped Israeli national, Mr. Gil Itamar, following a coordinated operation in the state.
Mr. Itamar, an employee of SCC Company in Takum, was abducted on Wednesday, April 3, 2025, by armed criminals in Atim Community, along the Takum-Chanchangi Road.
The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m., according to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, James Lashen.
Lashe said the Command received a report of the abduction at about 10:30 a.m. from one Alhaji Saidu, a staff member of SCC.
He said, acting swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Takum mobilized personnel from the 67 Police Mobile Force (PMF), alongside military officers and local hunters, to conduct a search-and-rescue operation.
According to him, the security team traced the kidnappers to the Kofai Ahmadu area, where they engaged the criminals in a fierce gun duel.
He said the confrontation forced the abductors to flee, leaving behind the victim who was rescued unharmed.
He added that Mr. Itamar is currently receiving medical attention at the SCC Company’s medical facility in Takum, stressing that authorities have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, with assurances that they will be brought to justice.
Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, CP Bretet Emmanuel, lauded the bravery and coordination of the security personnel involved in the operation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and warned criminal elements to vacate the state or face the full weight of the law.
“Taraba State will be made uncomfortable for anyone engaging in criminal activities,” CP Emmanuel declared.
