‘Security operatives told me kidnappings, killings are exaggerated” – FCT senator, Ireti Kingibe

The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Ireti Kingibe, has reacted to the worsening security situation in Abuja.

Kingibe claimed that security operatives in the country had told her that the current situation is largely exaggerated.

“A little bit earlier I tried to draw their attention (security operatives) and I was told that it was exaggerated,” she disclosed in an interview with ChannelsTV.

Kingibe also alleged that all efforts to reach the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, over the increasing insecurity in Abuja have failed to yield results adding the the minister does not regard elected representatives in the city.

The Labour Party (LP) lawmaker said she had made several efforts to discuss how to resolve the insecurity in the FCT with the minister without any success.

“I remember a few months ago, I drew the attention of the minister (Wike) – when he came for appropriation – to the fact that security is a priority. And I have been saying that for a long time,” Kingibe said.

“There is a big disconnect between the Minister of the FCT and the elected officials. I have WhatsApp messages, I have written him one or two letters and I don’t get any response.

“I am the person that people come to with their complaints. Everybody has been at me for not doing anything about the insecurity. The minister (Wike) as far as he is concerned there are no elected members in the FCT,” she said.
