Senate accuses Sunday Dare of nepotism, refuses candidate’s nomination

Senate Committee on Sports and Youth Development accused Sunday Dare of tribalism and nepotism on Thursday after his kinsman Soji Eniade was nominated as the Director-General of the Leadership Centre.

The committee claimed that the minister had previously dismissed two agency heads and replaced them with his relatives. It also held that it was unjust for the minister to nominate his relative as the director-general of the Training Centre while the interim director-general, Oluremi Sola-Phillips, had been performing well.

The event occurred on Thursday when CLTC management appeared before the Senate to defend the 2022 budget plan.

When it came time for the Centre to defend its budget, the committee directed that the director-general begin the defence. Instead of Mr Sola-Phillips, Mr Eniade stood up and identified himself as the director-general.

The Senate Committee’s chairman, Sen. Obinna Ogba of Ebonyi State, joined by Sen Isa Jubrin of Kogi State and Sen Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe of Bayelsa State, said the committee could not recognise Mr Soji Eniade as director-general of CLTC because the ministry does not belong to Sunday Dare or his home state.

He further said that the conduct of ministers like Dare causes people to blame President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet for nepotism.
