The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff (COAS) by President Bola Tinubu.
The confirmation came after the adoption of the report of the Committee on Army on the screening of Oluyede.
Presenting the report on Tuesday, Committee Chairman Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’adua (APC-Katsina) expressed the committee’s satisfaction with Oluyede’s credentials, citing his high level of understanding, achievements, and excellence. Yar’adua noted that the nomination is in line with the Constitution and the Armed Forces Act.
The committee chairman stated that Oluyede possesses the required competence, experience, and educational qualifications to be conferred with the position of Chief of Army Staff. He also revealed that the nominee had been cleared by the DSS and had undergone the correct process of promotion, qualifying him for the position.
After a thorough screening, the committee urged the Senate to confirm the nomination. Consequently, the Senate confirmed the appointment of Oluyede as substantive COAS.
