Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas have been taken to court over claims that lawmakers allegedly pay up to ₦3 million to present bills and motions in the National Assembly.

The case was filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), following a viral video where a lawmaker, Hon. Ibrahim Auyo, accused his colleagues of paying between ₦1 million and ₦3 million to table legislative items.

SERAP’s suit, marked FHC/L/CS/2214/2025, was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The group wants the court to compel the presiding officers to address what it described as a serious bribery allegation rocking the parliament.

SERAP is seeking “an order of mandamus to direct and compel Mr Akpabio and Mr Abbas to refer to appropriate anticorruption agencies for investigation and prosecution the allegations of ‘₦3m Bribe-for-Bills’ at the National Assembly.”

The organisation is also praying the court for “an order of mandamus to direct and compel Mr Akpabio and Mr Abbas to take all necessary measures to protect the whistleblower, Hon. Ibrahim Auyo, who made the allegations of ‘₦3m Bribe-for-Bills’ at the National Assembly.”

The group argues that the allegations represent a breach of public trust and undermine the oath taken by legislators.

It stated that lawmakers should never be required to “pay bribes to present motions and bills,” insisting that the claims, if true, “make a mockery of lawmaking” in Nigeria.

SERAP’s lawyers: Kolawole Oluwadare, Kehinde Oyewumi, and Andrew Nwankwo noted in the suit that compelling the leadership of the National Assembly to act would help restore faith in the legislature and uphold the rule of law.

Akpabio and Abbas are sued in their personal capacities and on behalf of all federal lawmakers. They are yet to publicly respond to the court action as at press time.

However, at the time of this report, no date has been announced for the hearing.

  1. THE ISSUE AT HAND RAVAGING NIGERIA DESERVES INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION IT CANNOT BE CHECKMATED IINTERNALLY.
WHEN IT STARTED IT WAS DIRECTED TO ALL PERSONS NOT IN LINE WITH THE JIHADISTS RELIGION; AND PRIMARILY AT CHRISTIANS.
BUT IN REALITY IT NOWBALLS INTO SOME ETHNICS WARS WHEREBY EVERY OTHER RELIGIONS WERE TOUCHED .
INDEED THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IF NIGERIA GOVT IS INDEED CONCERNED WITH MASS DEATHS TO COOPERATE AMERICA TO FISH OUT THE TROUBLERS OF ISREAL.

    1. Honestly that’s what am asking myself and some other persons why are they reacting now why!!!!!

  2. What kind of a place is this place called Nigeria? We have this serious situation called insecurity in the country – known communities are being wiped out (known places, dates and documentation), individuals with names are murdered, perpetrators are known, terrorists, especially the Fulani, are allowed to carry AK-47, farmers with matchets are arrested for possessing dangerous weapons, Buhari said actions against them would be deemed actions against the north, yet he designates IPOB, who are just saying they are tired of Nigeria, the terrorists. That one is not a biased narrative. But for VDM, the government would not have even visited communities being destroyed by these hoodlums in Benue. The Chief of Army staff at that point shamelessly came up to say that to his own mind, it’s a farmer-herder clash. No military intelligence? Oh! they use that only when a coup against a stolen mandate is suspected. Who is deceiving who? If these communities organize and fight back, then the army would swing into action. Is this not aiding and abetting crime in a country this set of skewed minds claim to be governing? This so called country is bleeding profusely, and Tinubu is busy with endless convoys etc. Now, a foreign country says they may intervene to stop all the rampage, and the government and muslim institutions are protesting. Does that not show that they prefer to maintain the status quo? If they feel muslims have also been victimized, that should be strongly pointed, but still the move to stop terrorism in Nigeria should still be welcome, but ‘No’, they still prefer the killings to continue. They should just note that nobody is an exclusive custodian of violence.

  3. Hmm,if Muslims are not blaming Christian for killing them unnecessary christian does not suppose to complain, look at at what is happening in eastern part of Nigeria place like IMO,abia, they are killing musulims like a goat, but we no complain because we know that this terrorist are few among citizens that the don’t want peace, exactly in northern part of Nigeria those people are terrorist and surely they don’t their religion because islam is calling for peace and righteousness,so this terrorist are killing both Christians and Muslims for them to get money ne.

  4. Islam is evil, cos it supports killing and maiming of non Muslims, expansion through conquest. Islam the evil side of human culture.

  5. The great great ground father of terroristis. You think world is not aware of your atrocities. You and sultan of sokoto
