Senator Abaribe Speaks on Release of Nnamdi Kanu by Federal Government

Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has expressed optimism that the new administration under President Bola Tinubu could offer a solution to the saga surrounding Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a recent statement, Abaribe urged the Tinubu-led government to consider Kanu’s release in the spirit of national unity and cohesion.

The IPOB leader has been detained since his extradition from Kenya in 2021, facing charges of terrorism, which the Court of Appeal later dismissed. However, the Supreme Court overturned this decision.

Yet, Abaribe said Igbo leaders, including himself, would continue to pursue a political solution to secure Kanu’s freedom.

He said: “I’m of the firm belief that this current Federal Government will do something very fast to release Nnamdi Kanu, if for no other reason, but for national cohesion and unity of the country.

“As leaders, we shall continue to press for a solution that will be the best in the circumstance”.
