Serving people was your number 1 priority, Wike mourns former FCT minister Useni

Nyesom Wike, the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory has mourned the passing of one of his predecessors, Jeremiah Useni.

Describing Useni as one who made serving people his number one priority, Wike said the late former FCT minister was a jolly good fellow.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Wike said one of Nigeria’s biggest trees in the forest has fallen.

Stating that the retired military General will be missed by all, the FCT minister said Useni was one leader that would be difficult for Nigerians to forget.

According to him, Useni was critical to the development of the FCT during his tenure which lasted between 1993 and 1998 under the late General Sani Abacha’s regime.

“From joining the Army at the age of 14 to becoming the Military Governor of the defunct Bendel State, Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigeria Army, FCT Minister and Senator for the Plateau South of Plateau State, Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, can be said to be among those Nigerians who saw it all and lived a life of service to the country.

“He was a jolly good fellow, fondly called ‘Jerry Boy,’ who took service to the people as his number one priority,” Wike said.

Commiserating with the people of Tarok, Plateau State, which is the late minister’s hometown and the Nigerian Army, Wike said, “On behalf of myself and residents of the FCT, I mourn the departure of General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a great man, a patriot, a fine military officer, a politician, a peacemaker and a man of faith in the Almighty God.”
