Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, will be unable to attend his planned concert in Majorca Island, Spain, today, Saturday, May 20, following his detention by the Nigeria Police Force.
Politics Nigeria recalled that the Lagos State Chief Magistrate in Yaba, Mrs Adeola Olatunbosun, amended her order and granted the Nigeria Police Force’s request to conduct a drug test on Kuti.
SaharaReporters had learnt that the Chief Magistrate inserted a drug test order in her ruling while writing the order.
Family sources however had revealed that doctors contacted by the police to obtain Seun Kuti’s blood refused the police authorities, saying they would only take his blood if he voluntarily acceded to it.
Meanwhile, Seun Kuti remains in police detention and could not attend his concert in Spain.
“Seun’s concert slated for Majorca, Spain tomorrow (Saturday) will be postponed after his departure from Nigeria was cancelled twice. The process is now stalemated as Seun remains in detention,” a source revealed on Friday.
Politics Nigeria gathered that the singer was on Thursday, May 18, rushed back to the magistrate court in Yaba, Lagos, by the police to seek four days’ extension ‘to conclude investigations’.
Seun was arraigned in court on Tuesday, May 16, for allegedly assaulting a police officer, an offence contrary to Section 356 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act. But he was granted a suspended bail on Tuesday.
