Sharia Law: Protect South West Muslims From Violence, MURIC begs IGP, DSS

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has been urged to prevent extreme violence against South West Muslims.

This call was made to the IGP by Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) over the increasing violent threats to the region and Yoruba Muslims following discussions around Sharia law.

In a statement issued on Saturday by MURIC’s executive director, Ishaq Akintola, the group also urged the Department of State Security and other agencies to prevent escalation of these threats.

According to Akintola, the debate surrounding the proposed Sharia law in the region is taking a violent turn.

He wanted against violent threats directed to Yoruba Muslims both online and offline.

“We are constrained to call the attention of the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and other security agencies to stop the plot to unleash violence on South West Muslims.

“The plot thickens daily as new threats are issued by different Yoruba groups,” Akintola said.

The leadership of MURIC also stated that most of the threats were coming from one

Ahmed Saliu Olokoju, who identified himself as the Secretary General of the Yoruba Islamic Salvation Front (YOISF).
