A former Federal Lawmaker, Shehu Sani, on Friday said the warning by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to the British envoy to stay off the southeast region, is condemnable.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that IPOB had asked the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing, to halt planned travels in the South East warning that such trips could be “suicidal”.
In a statement on Thursday by its spokesman who has the pseudonym Emma Powerful, the proscribed separatist movement alleged a plot by unnamed persons to kill the British envoy in the area and blame its members for it.
Powerful, who accused the high commissioner of “hatred against the Igbos and Biafra” said the group would not want to harm Laing but asked that she “must as a matter of life and death suspend all her planned activities involving travels” in the South East.
Reacting, Sani condemned IPOB’s threat.
“If actually the separatist group in the South East has issued threats to the British High Commissioner, Catriona Laing not to visit the South East, then that threat is condemnable; And I believe it doesn’t reflect the views of the people of the region except otherwise stated,” Sani said via his verified Twitter handle.
