Shehu Sani Raises Alarm as FCT Introduces Tax for TVs, Domestic Appliances

Nigerian activist and former senator, Shehu Sani has raised alarm over the decision by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration to impose tax on the use of domestic appliances by residents of the nation’s capital.

The ex-lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate between 2015 and 2019 took to his X handle on Wednesday to share his concerns on the new tax policy.

Sani expressed fears that the tax policy by the FCT on Television sets and other household appliances may soon spread to other states.

“Now that the FCT Councils will start collecting taxes for TVs and other domestic appliances, it will soon spread to the states,” he said.

Meanwhile, in August, the Abuja tenement office began implementation of the tax on said devices and charged all households a uniform rate of N66,000, being the fee for the use of TVs, radio and other home electronics.
