Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has emphasised the need for an experienced leadership at Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence to address the country’s persistent insecurity challenges.

Sani made the remark on his official X account on Tuesday, following the resignation of Defence Minister Badaru Mohammed.

Reacting to the development, Sani stated, “Whether the Defence Minister resigned or was removed, the Ministry of Defence requires an experienced hand to lead, given the current security challenges.

“Nigeria has a long history of military engagement, from participating in the First and Second World Wars to contributing forces for peacekeeping missions in the DRC, Tanzania, Lebanon, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Sudan, and beyond.

“The nation must be capable of defending itself against criminal bandits and terrorists.”

Politics Nigeria recalls that Badaru stepped down from his position on Monday, citing health reasons, according to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy.
