Shehu Sani Speaks on Opposition Coalition, Names Preferred Zone for 2027 Presidency

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has called on opposition parties to unite and zone their presidential ticket to the Southwest ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former lawmaker, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) made the remark during a press briefing at his Kaduna residence on Monday.

According to him, selecting a candidate from the Southwest would uphold the principles of fairness, equity, and justice.

“If there should be another presidential candidate from the opposition, that candidate should be from the South West because that is equity, justice and that is fairness,” he stated.

The former lawmaker criticized the previous administration for its handling of national security, noting that Northern dominance in the security architecture did not translate into peace or stability in the region.

“Under the last administration, all heads of the security apparatus were from Northern extraction,” Sani noted. “They never stopped terrorism in the North, they never stopped banditry in the Northwest, they never stopped killings in Benue State, in Plateau, and most part of the North Central states.”

Sani’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions among opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, who are believed to be leading efforts to form a united coalition.
