The People Democratic Party (PDP) has instituted a lawsuit asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prevent All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, from replacing his running mate with Senator Kashim Shettima.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that various groups and individuals have berated the APC and its standard-bearer over the Muslim-Muslim ticket (first with Kabiru Masari, and the Shettima).
Now, Nigeria’s main opposition party, the PDP, is asking the court to declare Tinubu disqualified unless he contest in the 2023 election alongside his previous running mate, Masari.
The PDP also based its argument on the fact that the term ‘placeholder’ is unknown to Nigerian law.
Reacting, Tinubu’s legal team said it is aware of the matter, but stated that they have not been served a notice by the court.
“Yes, I’m aware (of the matter). But they have not served us.” When asked to confirm the service, he restated, “They have not,” Babatunde Ogala (SAN), the Head, Legal Directorate, Tinubu Campaign Organisation, told the press.
