A decomposed body was discovered on Kandahar Hill, opposite Dutse General Hospital in Jigawa State.
Police confirmed the body as that of 37-year-old Ado Barau, widely known as Jojo, from Kasarau Fagoji in Dutse metropolis. The Command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, said Barau had battled mental illness for years.
The corpse was found on September 16 around 3:45 p.m. Detectives from Dutse Division moved to the scene immediately.
Because of the advanced state of decay and the strong odour, the body was buried at the spot with the help of the local government welfare department.
“The burial took place in the presence of the deceased’s relatives, representatives of traditional institutions, operatives from the DSS, NSCDC, FRSC, and members of the local community,” SP Adam explained.
He further noted that Barau’s elder brother, Rabiu Shehu, confirmed his sibling’s mental condition and dismissed rumours that body parts were missing.
The police urged residents to ignore fake reports and remain calm, stressing that the Command remains committed to safety and professionalism.
Earlier, some unverified claims in Dutse alleged that the deceased’s eyes were removed, with whispers tying it to the build-up of the political season. The police have since debunked the speculation.
This incident adds to growing concerns over strange discoveries across the country.
