The suspension of Kano lawmakers by the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has started to generate reactions.
A member of the House of Representatives, Kabiru Rurum, who was suspended by the party alongside Senator Kawu Sumaila and two others said he belongs to a different NNPP.
Rurum while reacting to the news of his suspension said that, since the party changed its logo, he now belongs to a different NNPP.
The chairman of the NNPP in Kano state, Sulaiman Dungurawa while announcing the suspension of the lawmakers by the party said they were all suspended over anti-party activities.
According to the chairman, the most recent action by one of the lawmakers is the presence of key leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the wedding ceremony Senator Sumaila’s daughter.
He further noted those who were affected by the suspension could be forgiven and reinstated into the party should they admit their offence and ask for forgiveness.
However, in his reaction, Rurum said he belongs to a different faction of the NNPP.
“The world knows that since they changed the party’s logo, we have not been with them. We are in the NNPP with the fruit and basket logo, while they are with the book logo. We also have a court judgment that dismissed their claims.
“What they did is a contempt of court. They are not legitimate party leaders. After our victory, they took us to an Abia High Court, and even this week, we were in court again. They are deceiving Nigerians,” he said.
He further condemned the politicisation of the wedding of Senator Sumaila’s daughter which had dignitaries from all walks of life in attendance.
“Honourable Nigerians were in attendance, and all of them, including Kwankwaso, were invited, but they refused to show up.
“Everybody in this country knows we are on two different lanes. They have only suspended themselves because we are not with them,” he said.
