Six arrested during Edo state governorship election, says Nigeria Police

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba, has revealed that six people were arrested during the Edo State gubernatorial election held last Saturday.

While providing a situation report on the election, Mba disclosed the recovery of four different types of weapons, live ammunition, 58 voter cards, and several stolen BiVAS machines.

“We have a total of six arrests at the moment. This number may increase as investigations progress, and we expect to uncover accomplices who may have facilitated or sponsored these suspects,” Mba said.

In addition to the arrests, he said the police recovered various weapons and live ammunition, voter cards unlawfully held by one of the suspects, and stolen or illegally obtained BiVAS machines. He added that cash was also seized during the operation.

The DIG commended the residents of Edo State for conducting themselves peacefully during the election and assured them of enhanced security for those travelling back home after voting.

“We’ll be strengthening security around the highways to ensure safe journeys for those returning to their places of abode,” he added.

Mba also praised the press for their role in facilitating real-time communication and providing feedback throughout the election process.

He lauded the security personnel for their professionalism, adding that no misuse of firearms was recorded during the election.

“We were fair but firm, tough on the criminals, and protective of the law-abiding,” Mba concluded.
