Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi, has come under fire for the grammatical errors in his handover note to his successor, Usman Ododo.
Bello handed over the mantle of leadership to Ododo on Saturday after eight years in the saddle as the Kogi State chief executive.
Ododo was sworn in after taking the oath of office at the inauguration ceremony in Lokoja, the state capital.
As expected in a democratic setting, outgoing governors are expected to issue a handover note to their successors to ensure a smooth and uncontentious transition of power.
Although Bello fulfilled the requirements, his grammatical constructions were spotted by Nigerians on social media.
In the handover note he posted on X, errors such as the misspelling of “tenure” and “constitutional” stood out.
He wrote: “I, Yahaya Bello CON, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, hereby handover the Governance and Administration of Kogi State to you, Alh Ahmad Usman Ododo, after the Successful Completion of my Constitution 2nd Tenor in office, Today the 27th Day of January 2024,” the certificate reads.
“CONGRATULATIONS!!!”
“It’s “tenure” not “tenor” please,” one of his followers wrote.
Another user, Adeola Ajengbe stated: “This write up get K-leg sha. I hope it doesn’t exemplified your 8years in office like people are saying.”⁹
