In a recent operation in the Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, personnel of the Nigerian Army engaged in a fierce gun battle with Eastern Security Network (ESN) fighters.
The troops successfully overpowered the insurgents, leading to the neutralization of one ESN fighter.
Following the operation, a clearance mission was conducted on the hideout, resulting in the recovery of three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and various arms and ammunition.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed that among the items recovered were:
- A Toyota Highlander SUV.
- A Hilux vehicle.
- Ammunition.
- A locally fabricated single-barrel gun.
- Proscribed Biafran uniforms.
- Communication equipment.
- Other paraphernalia.
In a separate operation in Abia State, troops encountered IPOB fighters at a suspected crossing point.
Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu said the insurgents fled the scene, leaving behind an AK-47 Rifle, magazines, and an FN Rifle.
He added that the military is actively pursuing the insurgents to maintain security in the region.
He assured that the military remains committed to safeguarding communities and eliminating threats posed by insurgent groups, pledging continued efforts to maintain peace and security in affected regions.
