Soldiers rescue 40-year-old man from bandits in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued a kidnapped victim during an operation in Lau local government area of Taraba state.

The army said the operation was carried out by troops of Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke deployed at Maraba Apawa.

It said the rescue followed credible intelligence on the movement of suspected kidnappers around Yaja village.

The operation took place on 11 December after troops received a distress report on the activities of the kidnappers.

The troops pursued the suspects and applied sustained pressure, forcing them to abandon their victim.

The rescued victim was identified as Alhaji Shuaibu, aged 40, from Yelwata community in Ardo-Kola local government area, was kidnapped on 9 December.

Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commander 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their quick response and professionalism.

Uwa said the operation demonstrated the brigade’s commitment to protecting lives and property in Taraba state, adding that the brigade is fully prepared to deny criminals any form of safe haven in the state.

He said kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes would continue to attract swift military action, assuring residents of a peaceful and secure festive season.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to support security operations.

The Army appreciated the cooperation of the public and restated its commitment to ensuring lasting peace in Taraba state and neighbouring areas.
