A former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau has refuted claims that he has become enemies with his counterpart Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Shekarau said that neither he nor Kwankwaso was responsible for the past political rift or differences between them.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday, Shekarau said that the differences in their political views were influenced by circumstances beyond their control at the time.
He also stated that should the need arise, he has no problem sitting for discussions with Kwankwaso, also a former governor of Kano State.
He alleged that the perceived rift between them was fueled by the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure fairness in the party’s structure.
Some of the leaders accused by Shekarau include a former president, Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu and Bisi Akande.
According to him, when Kwankwaso and some governors of Adamawa, Rivers and Sokoto states joined the party from the Peoples Democratic Party, there was some in-house wrangling.
“In Kano, the ANPP formed 80 per cent of the APC structure, yet because he was a sitting governor, they allocated him 60 per cent of the party leadership, which we questioned as an injustice,” Shekarau said.
He added that some of them at the time refused to be part of the injustice and favouritism happening within the party at the time.
“It doesn’t work like that. That’s why we refused to be part of such injustice,” he said.
