“Some ministers will go” — Presidency sources confirm cabinet reshuffle

President Bola Tinubu is set to undertake a significant reshuffling of his cabinet in the coming weeks, according to high-ranking sources within the Presidency.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the information, revealed that the planned changes are aimed at bolstering the effectiveness of the government.

According to the insiders, some ministers are expected to be dismissed, while others may be reassigned to different ministries.

The reshuffle, they indicated, is driven by the President’s desire to improve the capacity and performance of his administration.

However, they did not specify which ministers might be affected by the shake-up.

“What I can tell you is some ministers will go. A few will swap positions, and new people will be brought on board. The President will be focused more on capacity now; on people who can easily add value to his government,” the source stated.

Another insider highlighted the growing concern among Tinubu’s close associates regarding the current performance of the cabinet.

The source noted that there is a consensus that a more robust and dynamic team is necessary to successfully implement the President’s policies.

“The general concern among some of his aides, friends, and even the public is that the cabinet can be far better than this,” the source explained.

“There is a consensus among his close friends that he needs a stronger cabinet to push through with his policies. It is one thing to announce policies, and it is another thing for your ministers to deliver the outcomes you want.”

The source further pointed to a recent editorial by the Financial Times, which criticized the effectiveness of Tinubu’s cabinet despite his administration’s bold reform initiatives.

“The editorial was not palatable at all. They were saying that while the reforms are good, the President has a weak cabinet that cannot help him deliver on those reforms. That is why it appears like we are wobbling,” the source said.

With the first year of Tinubu’s presidency already in the books, the insider stressed the urgency of the upcoming changes.

“If the past one year has not been eventful, he cannot afford to waste another year. This next year is very critical. It is the next one year that will define the government,” the source added.

As President Tinubu prepares to make these changes, there is widespread anticipation about the potential new faces in the cabinet and how they will impact the administration’s ability to deliver on its promises.

The reshuffle is expected to be a key moment in Tinubu’s presidency, as he seeks to build a team that can effectively drive his agenda and address the challenges facing Nigeria.
