The Archbishop, Anglican Province of Enugu, Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Chukwuma, on Friday, slammed Nigerian politicians, saying some of them are holding fake and questionable certificates.
Chukwuma, who made the declaration at the fourth convocation ceremony of Paul’s University, Awka, Anambra state, urged them to enrol on recognised and accredited institutions to obtain genuine certificates valid everywhere.
The Archbishop, who is also the proprietor of the university, posited that graduating from accredited universities would make students become resourceful, ethical, morally and spiritually sound.
His words:
“If you are serious and spiritual, you will not go empty at the end of your study in this university. You will be found worthy in character and learning and obtain certificates that are not questionable, even in politics.
“You know that most of our politicians are carrying on certificates that are fake and questionable. Our own (Paul’s University) is not like that. We are recognised. We don’t issue questionable certificates.”
Also, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and former governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi, urged universities to explore agriculture as an option for sustenance and wealth creation rather than depending solely on students’ tuition fees or proprietor’s funding.
On his part, the Chancellor of Paul’s University and Primate of All Nigeria, Anglican Communion, His Grace Henry Ndukuba, commended the university for maintaining excellence.
He also pronounced Awka Diocese to take ownership of the institution for efficiency and smooth administration.
I see no reason why Nigeria academicians refuse to say anything about the issue of certificate forgery. Every higher institution in Nigeria always keep the duplicate of every certificate collected from their individual institution. So many employers of labour always sent the certificate of their employees to the institution where they graduated from for verification. My fellow Nigerians let the truth be told.
Ask Nigeria politician, who is your role model? They will biggin to mention the name of Awolowo. Saudauna, Azikiwe, Tafabalewa and so on and so forth. Is the the way the way they presented themselves for political engagement? I doubt so. Majority of the Nigeria politician have the thrown word honesty into dustbin and taken dishonesty as their watchword. Enough of this politics of self destruction.
