South-East PDP makes statement on zoning

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) southeast region, has demanded for “strict” adherence to zoning arrangements nationally, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.

Briefing pressmen at the weekend at the end of its Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) meeting held in Enugu State, members of the party unanimously agreed that the PDP should zone the presidency of Nigeria to the Southern part of the country ahead of the party primaries.

“We said where there are zoning patterns, they must be strictly observed and adhered to in every state and constituency,” Ali Odefa, the National Vice Chairman, South-east of the PDP said.

The meeting of the southeast PDP was attended by Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; his Abia State counterpart, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu; the National Secretary of the Party, Senator Sam Anyanwu; members of the State and National Assemblies; members of PDP National Executive Committee (NEC); Board of Trustees (BOT) members; among others.

According to a timetable released earlier this month, the national convention to elect the party’s presidential candidate will take place on May 28.
