S’South Women Threaten to Protest Naked Over Endorsement of Akpabio

South South Women Compatriot has asked President-elect Bola Tinubu not to endorse Godswill Akpabio for the position of Senate President.

The women’s group, in a communique after a meeting in Abuja, expressed concerns regarding Akpabio’s suitability for such a crucial leadership role due to allegations of corruption.

Highlighting their stance, the National Women Leader of the group, Dr. Imma Ubong, demanded that Akpabio address the corruption allegations against him by submitting himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation.

They emphasized that individuals with corruption charges should not hold positions of power where laws are made for the nation.

With concern for the integrity of Nigeria’s leadership, the South South Women Compatriot called on Ahmed Bola Tinubu to clarify his position and distance himself from Akpabio.

They emphasized the need for serious and responsible individuals to lead the Senate, particularly during the nation’s challenging times.

They stressed that Tinubu’s decision to endorse Akpabio would have far-reaching implications.

In a firm ultimatum, the women gave Tinubu and others seven days to reverse their endorsement of Akpabio or face a planned protest in Abuja, stating that they would protest naked to emphasize their demand for a change in decision.

The South South Women Compatriot urged Tinubu to consider the nation’s current debt crisis and the need for serious-minded leaders in the National Assembly to steer Nigeria towards economic recovery and development.

The group implored Tinubu to reconsider his endorsement of Akpabio, emphasizing that he is not the right person for the position of Senate President.

Dr. Imma Ubong, National Women Leader, and prominent state women leaders, including Mrs. Mary Ogbebor, Mrs. Ijeoma Anya, Chief Mrs. Abinla Alabrabra, Mrs. Biobele Abbey, Mrs. Idara Okon, jointly issued the communique.
