The coalition of student bodies in Ogun State has warned Sunday Asefon, the Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, on Students’ Engagement, advising him to cancel his proposed visit to the state.
According to the students’ coalition, Asefon’s visit could lead to disruptions of public peace, prompting students to protest against his presence in the state.
They also expressed dissatisfaction with Asefon’s alleged role in attempting to disqualify Governor Abiodun in the 2023 general elections, citing unfounded allegations and protests against the governor as reasons for their opposition to Asefon’s visit.
The statement, signed by various student leaders, declared Asefon persona non grata in Ogun State, emphasizing their rejection of his visit based on his perceived actions against the interests of Governor Abiodun.
The students accused Asefon of orchestrating the “Shawn Michael” saga, which aimed to disqualify the governor and called for investigations by anti-graft agencies.
Part of the statement seen by Politics Nigeria read:
“We received this information with total dismay and absolute rejection considering the role the said Asefon played in the build-up to the 2023 general election against the interest of Prince Dapo Abiodun, one out of several other reasons why Sunday Asefon had been declared persona non grata in Ogun State.
“Verified information shows that he was the brain behind the “Shawn Micheal “saga through his stooge one Oladimeji Uthman, a known scavenger, who called on anti-graft agencies to investigate Mr Governor.”
