Reverend Father Kelvin Ugwu, a Nigerian Catholic priest based in The Gambia has called on the Governor of Benue State to adopt the same approach he used on Peter Obi on the killer herdsmen operating in the state.
In a post made on Facebook, the Reverend Father said it is important that the governor becomes proactive towards the killing of the people of Benue State by suspected armed herdsmen.
Recently, Benue has recorded a series of incessant kidnappings and killings of its residents by some criminals.
Reports show that several victims of these attacks in various communities and Local Government Areas of Benue are predominantly households headed by farmers or consisting of farmers.
These attacks have also rendered residents of the state including women and children displaced and malnourished.
In a bid to alleviate the challenges faced by the displaced persons and families of the victims of these attacks, Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party had scheduled a visit to Benue State.
However, Obi’s visit which entailed monetary and items donations to the internally displaced persons was cancelled following Governor Alia’s warning to the former governor.
Alia in a statement by his media aide had said that he could not guarantee Obi’s safety during his planned visit to the state.
In his reaction, the Ugwu said, “Dear Governor, Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, one of the primary reasons that made people vote for you is because you are a priest, (though suspended).
“They believe you will be different. It is for them I speak. It is not a great thing that you come to Facebook every Eke market day to announce to us the number of people that have been butchered. Announce rather than those you have apprehended. Be proactive and not reactive.
“In the same way, you intercepted Obi’s entrance to Benue, you can also do the same to these people killing your people. That is if you want to,” Ugwu appealed to the governor.
All they know is how to score cheap shots at Mr obi to please their pay masters.when the fulanis are done with Benue,I wonder how many will be left for the priest to govern.Or does he think the Muslims will allow him be their governor?.
Benue is the only state that has consistently given chance to a member of the clergy to govern, starting from reverend father Adasu.
And this men if the cloth have not shown strength or wisdom.
