Stop throwing Nigerians into debt and despair – Peter Obi tells Tinubu’s govt

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has asked the Bola Tinubu-led government to channel excess revenue into improving the welfare of citizens.

In a post on X on Thursday, Obi said the government must “show sensitivity and compassion” by investing resources in areas that create jobs and ease hardship.

He faulted the neglect of key economic players and institutions struggling with funding, noting that their inability to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) was worsening the plight of Nigerians.

“Some of them are even protesting as they cannot meet their banks’ and staff needs,” Obi said.

He also criticised the continued protests by retired public servants, including security personnel, over unpaid gratuities and pensions.

“It is shameful that those who built this nation with their sweat, those who defended it with their lives, and those who have fulfilled their contractual obligations are reduced to begging for what is rightfully theirs, even after the government boasts of excess revenue,” he stated.

The former Anambra state governor argued that achieving revenue targets means nothing if it does not impact lives.

“Our nation must not continue to throw its citizens into debt and despair. It is time for our government to act responsibly and with integrity,” he added.

  1. Peter Obi you should keep your advice to yourself until when you become the President and stop all this rubbish and attention seeking ranting.

  2. The government will not need the advice rather they joy in seeing the citizens in pains and are prepared to increase it by imposing more taxes, more borrowing. Am on transit now by the road, they are in a very terrible state, yet all you hear is trillions of naira budgeted and spent without nothing on ground. It’s a very sorry state but a day of reconning will come.
