Subsidy Removal: Workers, Pensioners in Northern State to Get N10,000 Monthly Allowance

Civil servants and pensioners in Adamawa State will get N10,000 each month as petrol subsidy removal allowance for the next six months.

This was revealed by Dr Edgar Amos Sunday, the committee chairman set up by the state government to oversee the package.

He said buses would be provided to move workers between their houses and the state secretariat in Jimeta, where most ministries are located.

Sunday added that similar buses would be provided to provide inter-local government transport to members of the public at subsidised fares.

He also disclosed that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had approved the full implementation of the national minimum wage for local government workers starting in August.

Sunday, also the chief of staff to the governor, said his principal had approved the procurement of 70 trucks of maise and 20 trucks of rice for distribution to the people of the state at subsidised rates.

He added: “The government will also purchase 50 trucks of fertiliser specifically for workers at a subsidised rate.”

He explained that the measures were part of the recommendations submitted by the special committee to cushion the subsidy removal effect.
