Mr. Sijibomi Ogundele, Chief Executive Officer of Sujimoto, has reportedly been denied access to his legal team while in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Enugu.
The real estate developer, who voluntarily appeared at the EFCC Zonal Command on September 8, 2025, in relation to a contractual dispute with the Enugu State Government, was taken into detention after the visit.
Meanwhile, his lawyers, who arrived on September 10 to confer with him, said they were barred from holding a proper consultation with their client.
According to the legal team, EFCC officials interrupted Mr. Ogundele while he was attempting to explain the conditions of his detention and subsequently ordered that he be returned to custody without completing discussions with his lawyers. They described the incident as a clear violation of his constitutional right to legal representation.
The EFCC has yet to issue an official statement on the matter. However, the agency had earlier confirmed that Mr. Ogundele is under investigation over allegations of diverting N5.7 billion linked to the Enugu State Government. His bank accounts and international passport have also been seized pending the outcome of the inquiry.
