Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo blames AFCON final loss on Peseiro’s tactics

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has openly acknowledged that the team’s loss in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final was influenced by the tactical decisions made by the coaching staff.

The Nigerian side suffered a 2-1 defeat against the host nation, Ivory Coast, missing the opportunity to secure their fourth continental crown.

In a post-game video shared on social media, Omeruo expressed his thoughts on the match, emphasizing that the Eagles played too defensively, leading to a lack of opportunities in attack against the hosts.

“I don’t know. I think it wasn’t our day. We couldn’t create a lot of chances, and we played too deep,” Omeruo said.

Despite congratulating Ivory Coast, the 2013 AFCON winner conveyed the disappointment within the Nigerian camp, acknowledging the team’s hard work and deserving efforts.

“They (Super Eagles players) are sad, obviously. It’s heartbreaking, they have worked hard and deserved to win this trophy, but we’ve lost it,” Omeruo added.
